The year 2020 has been a busy year on the world scene. A seemingly unending parade of COVID-19 lockdown, stock crises, and new coronavirus recently formed in the United have dominated the news.
Here is the list of the top nine world events of the year that shook and amazed the world at the same time:
1) Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit royal family
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially announced to resign from the royal family in January and stopped using their titles from 1st April this year.
2) COVID-19 pandemic
World Health Organization (WHO) in March, declared the novel COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic.
3) Global lockdown
As the novel coronavirus continues to spread since the start of the year, most of the countries imposed lockdown and almost half of the globe was shut down.
4) Kobe Bryant’s death
The famous basketball player was killed along with his daughter, Gianna, and seven others when their helicopter crashed in Calabasas, California.
5) Impeachment of Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump faced an impeachment trial in January 2020 on charges that he asked Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
6) Movie ‘Parasite’ won Oscar
Remember when the South Korean movie ‘Parasite’ shocked the world by becoming the first South Korean international film to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
7) Black Lives Matter protests
Black Lives Matter protests went global as several people around the world protested against the death of George Floyd
8) Beirut explosion
A massive explosion at a Beirut port, sparked this year in August by the accidental detonation of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate. The explosion killed at least 190 people and injured thousands of others.
