The Karachi administration announced updated wheat flour prices on Tuesday, effective December 17, according to ARY News.
A notification from Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi set the wholesale price of fine wheat flour at Rs. 92 per kilogram (kg), with the ex-flour mill price also at Rs. 92 per kg. In retail, fine wheat flour will be sold at Rs. 99 per kg. The price of chakki flour is set at Rs. 115 per kg.
According to a report by ARY News on Tuesday, for regular wheat flour (2½ No. Atta), the retail price has been set at Rs 94 per kg, while the wholesale rate is Rs. 90 per kg.
In related news, flour prices surged in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other Punjab districts, where flour mill owners increased the price of an 80kg bag by Rs. 1300. Additionally, the Naan Bai Association called an emergency meeting to discuss the rising cost of bread (roti).
The federal government recently abolished a 5.5 percent advance income tax after successful negotiations with flour mill owners. This followed a strike organized by the flour mills association in protest of the advance income tax imposed in the 2024-25 budget.
