LAHORE: The Lahore police have launched a dedicated Cyber Squad to combat aerial firing, weapons display, and their promotion on social media ahead of New Year’s Eve.
Every year, stray bullets from aerial firing claim innocent lives across Pakistan. To address this, DIG Operations Lahore, Faisal Kamran, announced a comprehensive action plan to prevent such incidents.
In addition to the Cyber Squad, special police teams will be deployed in hotspot areas during New Year and Christmas celebrations to monitor and curb the promotion of illegal weapons and aerial firing on social media platforms.
DIG Kamran emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in aerial firing, with offenders facing imprisonment.
This year alone, 831 individuals involved in aerial firing and weapon displays have been jailed, and 505 cases have been registered.
“Do not turn your celebrations into mourning,” DIG Kamran urged, adding that public cooperation is crucial to eradicating this dangerous practice. Citizens are encouraged to report any criminal activities in their vicinity by calling 15.
