ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has notified an increase of Rs0.83 per unit in power tariff on account of variations in fuel charges for the month of July 2020.
As per details, NEPRA has issued a notification to increase the price of electricity by 0.83 paisa per unit. According to the notification, the increase was made in the context of the July fuel price adjustment.
The increase will be collected in the bills for the month of October. However, the increase in electricity prices will not be applicable to electric consumers of K-Electric and lifeline customers.
The latest increase in electricity rates will impose an additional burden of more than Rs 10 billion on consumers. On the decision of fuel price adjustment, Sindh NEPRA member said in a dissenting note that the burden of running the power plant being placed on the consumers was against the merit order.
On September 24, NEPRA had approved an increase of Rs1.6 per unit under the quarterly adjustments for the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2019-20, enabling the distribution companies to collect Rs164.870 billion from power consumers within the next one year.
