KARACHI: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to file a formal complaint regarding what he described as a coordinated social media smear campaign linking him and his son, Rawal Memon, to the high-profile murder of 25-year-old entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali.
The petition, submitted on August 9, 2026, requests immediate criminal action against specific social media handles, groups, and pages distributing false and defamatory claims.
According to the written complaint, targeted posts began circulating heavily online on August 9, alleging that a guest house located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar—cited in connection with the crime scene—is owned by Sharjeel Memon and was used as the location where Mir Raza was tortured to death.
Rejecting the online claims as false, fabricated, and baseless, the Senior Minister stated that neither he nor his son holds any ownership or interest in the property mentioned.
His complaint highlights that the viral posts were deliberately designed to assassinate his character, damage his social standing, and mislead the ongoing criminal investigation.
Memon submitted digital proof, including screenshots of specific user accounts, URLs, and digital groups propagating the accusations, urging the agency to initiate an immediate forensic inquiry under cybercrime laws.
Context of the Escalating Investigation

Originally treated as a kidnapping and suspected suicide, the inquiry shifted dramatically after a court-ordered grave exhumation and re-autopsy revealed a rear-entry bullet trajectory, broken ribs, and physical trauma.
Following forensic confirmation of homicide, police authorities upgraded the FIR to include Section 302 (Pre-meditated Murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code, suspended negligent field officers, and transferred the case to District Korangi under a newly appointed five-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) led by DIG Crime and Investigation Aamir Farooqi.
As the newly formed JIT prepares to re-interrogate guest house staff, business associates, and key witnesses linked to the Gulistan-e-Jauhar scene, provincial authorities have pledged that digital smear campaigns will be investigated alongside the core murder inquiry.
