KARACHI: Progress has been made in the investigation into the murder of 25-year-old Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali, with investigators recovering more evidence from the crime scene.

According to investigation authorities, two more members have been added to the investigation committee probing the case, taking the total strength of the committee to nine.

Authorities said that the SHO of Shah Latif police station and a DSP have been included in the committee.

The investigation authorities further said that the committee has taken back Mir Raza’s mobile phone and smartwatch from the NCIA. The devices will now be sent to the Lahore Forensic Laboratory for forensic examination.

Officials said the step was taken after Mir Raza’s family expressed reservations over the forensic examination being conducted by the NCIA.

Meanwhile, in a related development, a Karachi court extended the interim bail of Muhammad Ahmed, the business partner of the slain businessman, till August 24.

Case Background:

The murder case of Mir Raza Ali, whose body was found on July 29, has become a high-profile case in the city.

While police had initially treated it as a suicide, a second postmortem conducted after exhumation on court orders confirmed it to be a homicide, revealing a bullet wound entering from the waist and exiting the chest, along with broken ribs, head injuries and chemical burns on the face.

The court of the Judicial Magistrate East has sought the victim’s SIM card for investigation and has directed the investigating officer to submit the medical and investigation reports at the next hearing on August 24.

Earlier, police established a 24-hour temporary check post at the crime scene and Edhi volunteers who first reached the spot revealed that the body was concealed in bushes with visible gunshot and burn marks.

The family, through counsel Jibran Nasir, continues to demand a transparent investigation.
