KARACHI: The investigation into the murder of 25-year-old Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali saw a new development on Saturday as the investigating officer sought additional time from the court to submit the medical and investigation reports.
The case was heard in the court of the Judicial Magistrate East at the City Court. During the hearing, the investigating officer informed the court that the victim’s SIM card was required to take the investigation forward.
When the court inquired how the SIM card would be obtained, the investigating officer stated that efforts would be made to obtain the SIM card on the biometric and identity card of the victim’s mother.
The investigating officer requested more time for submission of the medical report and the investigation report. Accepting the request, the court granted time to the DSP and adjourned the hearing till August 24.
The court also ordered that progress in the case and the medical examination report be presented at the next hearing.
Case Background:
The case of Mir Raza Ali, whose body was found on July 29, has become a high-profile case in the city. Police had initially attempted to portray the death as a suicide, a claim strongly rejected by the family.
The family’s stance was vindicated after the court ordered exhumation of the grave and a second postmortem, which revealed that the bullet had entered from the waist and exited the chest, besides confirming broken ribs and head injuries.
The Sindh Forensic Laboratory has confirmed the identity and blood samples. According to family counsel Jibran Nasir, acid was thrown on the deceased’s face and anesthesia was administered.
Earlier this week, Edhi volunteer Mohsin Shah, who was among the first to reach the crime scene, told media that the body was hidden in bushes with a visible bullet wound and signs that a chemical had been thrown on it.
Another volunteer said the face was badly burned and fingerprints could not be obtained.
Following these revelations, police established a temporary 24-hour check post at the crime scene, with personnel deployed in two shifts and barred from leaving until the case is concluded.
Meanwhile, victim’s father Mir Hussain had led a protest rally from Tariq Road to Nursery on Friday and demanded the suspension of DIG East Farrukh Lanjar and the SHO of Ferozabad police station, alleging delay and attempt to conceal evidence.
