KARACHI: Legal counsel for the family of slain Mir Raza Ali, Mohammad Jibran Nasir has lashed out at the Sindh government and provincial law enforcement, alleging that individuals who exposed official cover-ups in the case are now being systematically targeted.
The sharp criticism comes as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Javed Alam Odho acknowledged “miscommunication” in the early stages of the investigation while promising rapid progress under a newly constituted inquiry committee.
Speaking to the media alongside Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain, Jibran Nasir accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led Sindh government of actively undermining the investigation and protecting negligent officials:
Jibran Nasir revealed that authorities spent the initial days attempting to force a suicide narrative upon the victim’s family. This framing unraveled on August 4 when Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed publicly disclosed critical autopsy discrepancies on national television.
The attorney criticized Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar for targeting the sole police officer who performed their duties honestly during the 11-day probe, while penalizing those who challenged institutional narrative lapses.
Declaring that the victim’s family has zero confidence in political promises from the provincial administration, Nasir emphasized that transparency was forced through public resistance and independent forensic scrutiny rather than state goodwill.
IGP Sindh Cites “Miscommunication” in Initial Probe
In a separate explanatory statement, IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho addressed growing public outrage over procedural failures, attributing initial investigative missteps to communication breakdowns between field units and police leadership.
Odho confirmed that the newly appointed Joint Investigation Team (JIT)—led by DIG Crime and Investigation Aamir Farooqi—is operating at full capacity to re-evaluate all physical, digital, and forensic evidence.
The police chief assured the public that the fresh investigation would leave no stones unturned and that verified findings would be presented before the nation shortly.
Context of the Escalating Homicide Probe
It is pertinent to mention here that the verbal clash between the victim’s legal team and political leadership marks the latest friction in a case plagued by institutional misdirection.
Originally reported as a kidnapping and alleged suicide, the case transformed into a formal murder investigation after court-ordered exhumation and re-autopsy confirmed severe physical trauma, acid burns on the victim’s limbs and lungs, and a rear-entry bullet trajectory.
Following these findings, police upgraded FIR No. 795/2026 to include Section 302 (Pre-meditated Murder) of the PPC, transferred the case file to District Korangi, sealed the Gulistan-e-Jauhar guest house, and submitted exhumation DNA samples to the University of Karachi lab to verify the body’s identity.
