KARACHI: The medico-legal officer (MLO) at Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital has confirmed that a five-year-old girl whose body was found wrapped in a piece of cloth at a garbage dump in Essa Nagri was raped before being murdered.

“Something heavy was used to strike her on the head that led to her death,” Dr Zakia Khursheed noted adding samples from the deceased’s body have been obtained for further investigation and tests.

Meanwhile, the district police have detained 11 suspects after the burnt body of the five-year-old girl was recovered, a case that has caused an uproar on social media.

A police spokesperson informed that an investigation has been launched into the rape-and-murder case. “DNA tests of the 11 men, who were detained from the site, would be carried out soon,” he added.

On the other hand, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari today (Monday) took notice of the minor girl’s murder in Karachi, saying that her rape and murder was an inhumane act.

The PPP chairman also directed the Sindh police to immediately arrest the culprits and ensure they are brought to book. “What happened to that innocent little girl is a heartbreaking tragedy,” he added.
