Meta has introduced a new feature for WhatsApp Web and the WhatsApp desktop app for Windows that is expected to significantly improve how users interact with PDF documents.
The company announced the integration of Adobe Acrobat support into WhatsApp Web and the Windows application.
With this update, users can view PDF files directly within WhatsApp on laptops and desktop computers without having to download them first.
Previously, PDF files received through WhatsApp had to be downloaded before they could be opened. The new feature eliminates that requirement, allowing users to access documents instantly within the chat.
In addition to viewing PDFs, users will also be able to edit documents by using features such as highlighting and annotations.
Meta said the functionality has been introduced through a partnership with Adobe and is now being rolled out globally to users of WhatsApp Web and the Windows desktop application.
WhatsApp has more than 3 billion users worldwide, many of whom regularly exchange documents through the platform. Meta said the new feature is designed to make document sharing more convenient while maintaining end-to-end encryption, ensuring that PDF files remain protected even when viewed within chats.
The company also announced several additional updates. Users on iPad can now create a new WhatsApp account directly from the device, while the messaging app has been redesigned for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Meta further said that users can now share songs directly from supported music services to their WhatsApp Status, making it easier to post and discover music through the platform.
