Mark Wahlberg has provided an update on the potential sequel to “Uncharted.” In the initial film released in 2022, Wahlberg portrayed Victor “Sully” Sullivan, serving as a mentor to Tom Holland’s character, Nathan Drake. While there have been hints from producers about the desire for a sequel, no official announcement has been made, leaving uncertainty about the fate of “Uncharted 2.”
According to The Direct, Wahlberg shared that progress is indeed being made on the sequel, with the screenplay now completed. He also hinted at his transformation to resemble the video game version of Sully, including growing out his facial hair, as suggested in the post-credits scene of the first movie.
Wahlberg remarked, “I’ve heard lots of different ideas [for Uncharted 2]. I know somebody’s written a script, and they’re still working on it, and it would consist of having the mustache the whole entire time. Which completely makes sense; obviously, in that final scene, I have the mustache.”
Discussing the decision to include the mustache in the sequel, Wahlberg explained, “I spent quite a bit of time growing it because, at one point, we tried to do it with a fake mustache, and, I don’t know. I just don’t have the confidence to pull it off. It just feels like there’s a big piece of tape over my mouth, and I feel ridiculous.”
While plans for another film are in motion, Wahlberg has not yet committed to appearing in “Uncharted 2.” He expressed a willingness to return, contingent on the screenplay’s quality, emphasizing that it would need to surpass the first installment for him to consider reprising his role.
Wahlberg stated, “When I finally got the mustache, people really appreciated it. And it was a nice tag to the end of that film. So if we can make it better than the first, you know, I’d be open to it, but I only know as much as you do right now.”
Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the “Uncharted” movie features a cast including Antonio Banderas, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Rudy Pankow alongside Holland and Wahlberg. The film is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
