Magnitude 5.2 quake felt in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Earthquake tremors were felt in the federal capital on Monday after a quake of magnitude 5.2 was recorded with its epicentre along the Tajikistan‑China border, the Seismological Centre said.

The centre said the quake occurred at a depth of 128 kilometres and was recorded at magnitude 5.2 on the Richter scale. According to initial reports, there were no casualties or damage. People in affected areas came out of their homes reciting the Kalima Tayyaba, local witnesses said.

Rescue officials confirmed there were no reports of loss of life or property, but said response teams had been placed on alert.

Heavy rain & thunderstorm likely in Islamabad within hours

Separately, earlier tremors were felt in Khuzdar district of Balochistan and surrounding areas after a shallower quake of magnitude 3.9. That quake was recorded 10 kilometres underground with its epicentre about 62 kilometres southeast of Khuzdar, and it caused panic among residents though no damage or injuries have been reported.
