RAWALPINDI: A team of Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment, which rushed to Kohsar area of Islamabad to arrest Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Saturday, has returned empty handed after Islamabad Police raised a number of objections on his arrest warrants and refused to cooperate.
Earlier today, a judicial Magistrate of Rawalpindi had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for federal interior minister Rana Sanullah.
According to reports from multiple media sources, the special judicial Magistrate issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Rana Sanaullah in Case No. 20/19.
A spokesperson for Punjab Anti-Corruption confirmed the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants for Rana Sanaullah and said the warrants were issued for his failure to appear in an anti-corruption inquiry.
The police party let by Inspector Abdur Rahman, however, met with a series of objections raised by the Islamabad Police. The Kohsar police said the residence of Rana Sanaullah didn’t fall in their jurisdiction, and that the address on the warrants was that of Faisalabad. Besides this, they argued that the arrest warrants were not complete, and thus sought excuse from implementing the arrest orders.
Case Background: Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has been charged with taking two plots in Bismillah Farm Housing society Kalar Kahar as a bribe at a much lower price than the planned rate from the owner of the scheme Ikhlaq Ahmed for registering his illegal society.
Rana Sanaullah along with his wife had attended the inauguration ceremony as the Minister of Law, and both the plots were given to his wife free of any cost and the registry was shown to be as sold.
According to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), “the administration of housing colonies established at Kalar Kahar neither got any NoC from the departments concerned nor obtained approval of the map of colonies from the Chakwal District Council. For establishing new colonies, the developers illegally cut the trees and damaged greenery and create environment pollution in the area.”
