KARACHI: As many as 47 dog bite cases were reported in the metropolis during the last 24 hours.
According to sources, a total 47 dog bite cases were reported in the metropolis out of which 11 reported at Anti-Rabies Clinic of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), 25 were reported at the Rabies Centre of Indus Hospital Korangi, four cases registered at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, seven cases emerged at Lyari General Hospital.
On the other hand, dog bite vaccines are rarer at major hospitals in the metropolis, while, a campaign to neutralize the dog of the municipality of Karachi has also stopped and the public has been left at the mercy of stray dogs.
Stray dogs have become the most severe public health issue in the Sindh province as their population is growing at an alarming rate and the concerned authorities are not getting rid of them.
According to health officials, rabies is a disease that is 100 percent fatal, but it is also 100 percent vaccine-preventable.
It has no treatment if an individual gets a full-blown viral infection and it is a viral illness that is transformed into humans if they are bitten by rabid animals.
It may be recalled that last year, hundreds of dog bite cases were reported across Sindh including Karachi, killing more than 20 people, including children.
