As Eid approaches, Peshawar is witnessing a significant rise in essential commodity prices, including poultry meat. Recent reports indicate that the price of chicken meat has surged by Rs 45 per kilogram over the past week, reaching Rs 405 per kg in local markets.
Market analysts from MM News highlight that this increase is part of a broader trend affecting various essential items. Alongside poultry, many vegetables have also seen price hikes, with costs rising by Rs 20 to Rs 30 per kg. Additionally, fruits are now being sold at an increased price of Rs 50 per kg.
The upswing in prices follows the recent announcement by the Pakistan Petroleum Association regarding a nationwide strike due to a substantial hike in petrol and diesel prices, which increased by Rs.55 per litre. The Petroleum Dealers Association has indicated plans for a nationwide strike after Eid, with Vice Chairman Tariq Hasan expressing concerns over the late-night implementation of oil price hikes.
It is now becoming increasingly evident that these economic pressures are adding to the challenges faced by local consumers as they prepare for the festive season.
