Transparency International has released the Corruption Perceptions Index 2024, according to which corruption has increased in Pakistan last year.
According to the report, Pakistan has become the 46th most corrupt country in the world and is ranked 135th in the ranking of 180 countries.
Pakistan’s score on the Corruption Perceptions Index was 27 out of 100, while in 2023, Pakistan was ranked 133rd, which went down to 135th in 2024. Last year, Pakistan was the 48th most corrupt country, but this year it saw a further two-rank decline.
According to the report, eight different sources were used to collect data for the Corruption Perceptions Index. Pakistan’s ranking also went down in the Verities of Democracy Project, while Pakistan’s score in the Economist Intelligence Unit fell from 20 to 18.
Pakistan’s major decline was also seen in the World Economic Survey report. During the PDM era, Pakistan was ranked 140th out of 180 countries, but now it has fallen from the bottom to 41st among corrupt countries.
According to the report, Denmark is ranked first among the least corrupt countries, while Finland is second and Singapore is third. India is ranked 96th, which is 39 places better than Pakistan.
The most corrupt countries include South Sudan, Somalia, and Venezuela, while corruption has also increased in Iran, Iraq,,q and Russia. Russia has reached 154th place, while Afghanistan is 165th and Bangladesh is 151st.
