ISLAMABAD: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has turned down a petition to ban the Aurat March that will take place on 8th March in Lahore.
LHC Chief Justice Mamoon Rashid shaikh conducted the hearing. The petition was earlier filed against the Aurat March by lawyer Azhar Siddique claimed that anti-state parties were funding the march.
According to the petitioner, the purpose is to create disorder and unrest in the country. He also termed the march an anti-Islam and against its great values. The marchers have a hidden agenda to spread vulgarity and hatred, he further claimed.
However, Justice Mamoon Rashid during the hearing turned down the hearing and told the petitioner the court could not ban freedom of expression in the country.
Justice Mamoon Rashid shaikh dismissed all his claims saying a peaceful rally or a march could not be banned simply on the basis of accusations.
The judge also sought a report from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and police with regard to providing adequate security during the rally.
The Aurat March will be held on 8th March on the eve of International Women Day. The march is being held for few years every year on the designated day to highlight the importance of women in our society.
