Pakistani-American chef Fatima Ali, who passed away in 2019 after battling cancer, has been awarded the prestigious James Beard Award for the second time.
Late Fatima Ali was honoured with the James Beard Award in a ceremony decorated with stars from different countries on Saturday in the city of Chicago, USA.
This award was given to Fatima Ali for her book titled ‘Savor: A Chef’s Hunger for More which she wrote on her deathbed, this book was published after her death and received a lot of acclaim within a short period of time.
Fatima Ali was the daughter of former Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf who was famous for participating in reality cooking shows and cooking delicious food. Fatima Ali passed away in January 2019 after a long battle with cancer.
Earlier, Fatima Ali won the award for the article ‘I’m a Chef With Terminal Cancer’ written for Bon Appétit magazine in October 2018. This award was also given posthumously in April 2019.
Fatima Ali was diagnosed with bone cancer in late 2017 and underwent chemotherapy and surgery to remove a tumor in her left shoulder in January 2018, after which her health deteriorated.
