KARACHI: Illegal occupation of public lands continues unabated in Manghopir area and along the Northern Bypass in District West allegedly under the patronage of influential politicians and the complacency of local authorities.
These illegal occupations have caused a loss of Rs16 billion to the national exchequer due to the inaction of the Lyari Development Authority (LDA).  The authority has provided false documents for lands adjoining Mai Gari chowk, Chilgoza market and other areas of Manghophir.
The authority has carried out raids after being identified by the media but the occupants have returned to control the lands. The police have failed to take action as several politicians from Sindh and Balochistan are allegedly involved in the illegal activities.
District West administration continues allotment of public lands on bogus documents which include a fake stamp of a shell company. The administration has been selling plots of 80-120 square yards for Rs2-500,000 but no action is being taken against the authorities.
