LAHORE: Lahore cops linked to Rehan Butt allegedly helped the suspected target killer in street crimes, including mobile phone snatching, police sources said.

These revelations are reported to have emerged during an investigation into two detained officials accused of maintaining links with Rehan Butt. Police have recorded the statements of both officers and launched forensic examinations of their mobile phones.

Lahore cops linked to Rehan Butt under investigation

According to police, Rehan Butt allegedly stole mobile phones and carried out snatching incidents on Lahore’s Metro Bus system. Investigators said the detained officials used their influence and contacts within the police department to support him.

Police sources identified the officials as an assistant sub-inspector and a constable. The ASI was posted in the Criminal Records Branch, while the constable served in the Lower Mall Investigation Wing.

Investigators also allege that the officers helped Rehan secure bail in criminal cases. They reportedly also assisted in having his criminal record expunged.

Police officers helped target killer, probe reveals

The investigation is examining the extent of the officials’ alleged involvement and whether they misused their positions. Authorities are reviewing phone data, social media links and relevant police records.

The probe follows the killing of police officials in Lahore’s Badami Bagh and Nawan Kot. Police had identified Rehan Butt and Fayyaz Butt as the suspected father-son attackers. Both were later killed in an alleged police encounter after a pursuit near Sheikhupura.

The latest findings have intensified scrutiny of possible police support networks. Investigators are expected to determine whether the alleged assistance enabled Rehan Butt’s continued involvement in street crime and attacks on officials.
