LAHORE: Three policemen were injured in a firing incident involving police personnel outside the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) centre in Lahore, police sources said, adding that the accused who opened fire managed to escape.
Police said the incident occurred during a confrontation, when an armed group fired upon police officers stationed outside the centre. As a result, three policemen sustained injuries and were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Officials also confirmed that CCTV footage of the incident has come to light, in which three accused are seen firing at the police personnel. Despite the identification of the shooters on video, no arrests had been made at the time of filing.
It is notable that the episode is part of a continuing wave of violence in Lahore, in which two policemen have been killed and three others injured so far.
The firing incident follows a previous attack in Badami Bagh, where two policemen were killed. In that case, the accused identified as Rehan is reported to have been linked to the attack. The development has further heightened tensions, as Rehan’s family has alleged that his brother was killed in what they described as a “fake” police encounter. According to the family, the alleged encounter has been repeatedly depicted as staged.
Police have initiated an investigation into both incidents, with efforts under way to identify and apprehend the attackers seen in the CCTV footage.
