Amid ongoing anti-Israel protests in Pakistan, attacks on international fast food chains have taken a dangerous turn.
In recent days, several branches of KFC have been targeted, where vandalism occurred and staff and customers were harassed. However, in Sheikhupura, the situation escalated to a fatal incident.
At the Bypass Chowk branch of KFC, an unknown assailant entered the kitchen and opened fire on 45-year-old Asif Nawaz, who was critically injured. He was shifted to DHQ Hospital by Rescue 1122, but succumbed to his injuries. Asif was a resident of Khan Colony.
Eyewitnesses reported that this branch had previously been the site of protests, including vandalism and threats to staff.
Following the incident, Housing Colony Police Station, in collaboration with sensitive security agencies, launched a search operation across various parts of the city. Multiple raids were conducted, and several suspects were detained.
Police have ruled out personal enmity as a motive, stating that the operation is being carried out in light of the broader anti-brand attacks.
Following the incident, people on social media expressed outrage and called for peaceful demonstrations instead of violence.
