Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry strongly condemned recent violent attacks targeting an international fast-food chain operating across Pakistan, declaring that any violence against investors or businesses would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
While addressing the media, Chaudhry revealed that around 20 incidents of violence had been reported at various outlets of the restaurant chain across the country. He further confirmed that 12 FIRs had been registered in connection with the attacks.
“It is the state’s responsibility to ensure the protection of life and property for all, especially businessmen and investors,” the minister asserted.
He added that 142 individuals in Punjab and 15 in Islamabad have been arrested, many of whom expressed remorse after their arrest. Unfortunately, he said, one person from Sheikhupura lost his life during the unrest.
Calling the attacks both “un-Islamic” and a violation of Pakistan’s Constitution, Chaudhry expressed disappointment over the disregard for both religion and the law by certain elements of society.
“It is unacceptable that those investing in Pakistan are subjected to such violence,” he said, noting that the affected fast-food chain employs around 25,000 Pakistanis and pays 100% of its due taxes within the country.
He warned that those who incite or participate in violence—whether out of emotion or misinformation—must be ready to face the consequences, as maintaining law and order remains a top government priority.
This statement comes at a time when tensions have been rising amid widespread protests, including the closure of OPDs in Punjab hospitals over concerns about proposed healthcare privatisation reforms.
