THATTA: Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Kheeal Das Kohistani, was attacked on Saturday by unidentified assailants while en route to Jhok Sharif to attend a public event.
According to initial reports, a group of armed individuals launched the assault in the heart of Thatta city, using sticks and chairs to attack the minister’s convoy.
His vehicle sustained damage, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The boldness of the attack in a densely populated area has reignited concerns over the security of public representatives in interior Sindh. While no arrests have been made so far, the incident has drawn condemnation from various political and civil society quarters.
Speaking to the media shortly after the incident, Minister Kohistani called for calm and stressed the importance of addressing national challenges through institutional mechanisms.
“The solution to water-related issues doesn’t lie in protests or roadblocks,” he said. “Sustainable resolutions can only be achieved through constructive engagement in parliamentary platforms such as the National Assembly and Senate.”
The attack has also triggered political commentary, with some observers alleging that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is being targeted under the pretext of regional grievances, especially amid ongoing water disputes, in an attempt to destabilize its influence in Sindh.
