KARACHI: Traffic police have issued a detailed traffic plan for Muharram 8, 9, and 10. MA Jinnah Road and other major roads will face strict restrictions during central processions. Alternate routes have been announced for commuters.
In a statement issued on X (formerly Twitter), Karachi traffic police shared the routes and their closure timings.

Muharram 8: Central Procession and Full Traffic Plan
DIG Traffic Karachi said the main procession will start from Nishtar Park. It will follow traditional routes through MA Jinnah Road and end at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian.
MA Jinnah Road will be closed to all traffic from Guru Mandir to Tower for security reasons.
Alternate routes:
- Traffic from Nazimabad can use Lasbela Chowk to Nishtar Road toward Garden.
- Traffic from Liaquatabad should take Teen Hatti to Lasbela, then Central Jail Road, also called Martin Road.
- Traffic from Hassan Square to PIB Colony must use Kashmir Road and Shahrah-e-Qaideen.
Muharram 9: Partial Closures and Timings
Traffic restrictions will remain on the procession route on 9 Muharram. Some areas in Karachi will face timed closures.
- Guru Mandir Chowk will close from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
- Jamshed Road, Guru Mandir, and Bahadur Yar Jung Road will close from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- Traffic from Shahrah-e-Faisal will be diverted to Kashmir Road and alternate routes.
Muharram 10: Strictest Restrictions During Main Procession
Traffic control in the port city of Karachi will be tightest on 10 Muharram during the central procession.
No traffic will be allowed on MA Jinnah Road from Guru Mandir to Tower. Only vehicles with official procession stickers can enter.
Heavy traffic will be diverted at Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad No. 2, Hub River Road, and Sher Shah toward Mauripur.
Heavy traffic from National Highway will be routed via Shahrah-e-Faisal, Stadium Road, Hassan Square, and other alternate routes.
Routes for Procession Participants
Separate entry points have been assigned for participants:
- From Nazimabad via Lasbela and Guru Mandir.
- From Liaquatabad via Teen Hatti, Jahangir Road, and Guru Mandir.
- From Gulistan-e-Johar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal via University Road, Kashmir Road, and Society Light Signal.
Warning and Traffic Instructions
Karachi traffic police said no vehicles will be allowed on the procession route after Guru Mandir. Violating traffic will be diverted to alternate routes immediately.
