KARACHI: National Institute of Health (NIH) revealed on Saturday that the Covid-19 infection rate in Karachi is on the rise again and is almost touching 20% positivity on average in the last week. 280 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, according to the NIH data.
The federal agency for health said 3,336 tests were conducted in Karachi in the last 24 hours, in which 280 cases came back positive. The province’s positivity ratio stands at 8.4%.
Earlier, in a letter to the Karachi and Hyderabad commissioners, the Sindh health department expressed concerns about the sixth COVID-19 wave.

The health department directed the commissioners to ensure that Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) are being strictly followed in the two cities.
The provincial health department urged people to wear mask and observe social distancing.

COVID-19 has claimed 30,383 lives in Pakistan so far. Since the previous high of 56 on September 30, 2021, fatalities have generally been on the decline. According to the government dashboard, the total number of cases in the country is 1,531,982.
