In a ruling on Monday, an Additional District and Sessions Judge in Malir, Shehnaz, handed down a verdict to Farid, ordering him to receive 80 lashes for refusing to accept the paternity of a child and falsely accusing his ex-wife of adultery.
This sentence was issued under the Qazf Ordinance of 1979.
The judge emphasized that following Farid’s conviction by the Federal Shariat Court (FSC), his testimony would not hold any weight in subsequent court proceedings. Additionally, the court-mandated Farid to submit a surety bond of Rs100,000. Despite this, he is still required to appear at the designated time and place determined by the court for sentencing.
The plaintiff detailed in her petition that she had married Farid in 2015. However, after spending just one month with her husband, she returned to her parent’s home where she later gave birth to a baby girl.
During the case, Farid filed two petitions, one of which requested a court-ordered DNA test to determine the child’s legitimacy. However, he subsequently withdrew both petitions.
In response, the woman filed a petition against her ex-husband under the Hudood Ordinance in a sessions court.
The court noted that during the hearings, Farid neither sought clemency nor dropped the charges against his ex-wife.
