ISLAMABAD: The federal government has allocated Rs10 billion for Karachi’s bulk water supply project K-IV in the upcoming fiscal year budget, according to official budget documents.
The documents show that Rs54.6 billion has been set aside for sustainable urban development and the housing sector. Under this allocation, 150,000 affordable housing units will be constructed at the federal and provincial levels, while digital master plans will be developed for 10 major cities.
For key water and power infrastructure projects, Rs14 billion has been allocated for the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, Rs22 billion for the Mohmand Dam, and Rs15 billion for the Dasu Hydropower Project. A total of Rs116.2 billion has been earmarked for the power sector.
The budget also includes Rs6.6 billion to boost industrial development and enhance export competitiveness.
In the transport and infrastructure sector, Rs100 billion has been allocated for the dualisation of the N-25 Highway (Pakistan Expressway), which connects Karachi to Chaman. Additionally, Rs30 billion will be invested in the Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway.
According to the budget documents, work on the Karachi–Rohri section of the ML-1 railway project will begin next year, with an allocation of Rs25 billion for the project.
