ISLAMABAD: The federal budget 2026-27 has proposed billions of rupees in allocations for salaries, allowances and operational expenses of Parliament and its members, according to budget documents.
The documents show that Rs9.67 billion has been proposed for the Senate, while Rs17.46 billion is suggested for the National Assembly.
For Senate members’ salaries and privileges, Rs1.22 billion has been allocated. An amount of Rs218.9 million has been proposed for the Chairman Senate, Deputy Chairman and Senate Secretariat.
Similarly, Rs104.8 million has been allocated for the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate and their secretariat, while Rs1.58 billion is proposed for chairpersons of Senate standing committees.
For the National Assembly, Rs5.35 billion has been proposed for members’ salaries and privileges. The Speaker, Deputy Speaker and related offices are expected to receive Rs393.4 million.
The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and their secretariat have been allocated Rs83.4 million, while Rs1.6891 billion is proposed for chairpersons of National Assembly standing committees.
The budget 2026-27 proposals state that these allocations are part of the financial requirements for parliamentary affairs and legislative operations. Final approval will be subject to parliamentary debate and voting on the budget.
