KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that K Electric has overbilled the provincial government to the tune of billions of rupees in the last 10 years.
In a statement, the energy minister said that K-Electric has received an additional Rs 20 billion from Sindh government departments during the last 10 years.
Syed Nasir Hussain Shah added that an audit conducted has revealed over-billing of more than 2 billion rupees during the last year alone.
The Energy Minister further said that to prevent over-billing, the provincial government had also given billions of rupees to K Electric for installation of smart meters but to no avail.
Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that despite receiving billions of rupees, KE has not yet installed smart meters in Sindh government departments.
The minister said that smart meters provide real-time data and prevent over-billing. The minister said, “What will happen to the citizens when government institutions charge more than billions of rupees?”
