Israeli players have been banned from participating in the upcoming World Indoor Bowls Championships, scheduled to take place in England.
The decision follows political tensions surrounding Israeli participation in the Scottish International Open held in August. According to a statement from the World Bowls Tour, the board made this difficult decision after consulting with tournament organizers and other stakeholders. They noted that the exclusion of Israeli players was meant to protect the integrity of the event and avoid disruptions.
The World Bowls Tour emphasized that sport should unite people and that the decision was taken with the goal of ensuring the tournament proceeds smoothly for all involved.
However, the Jewish community in Britain has expressed strong disapproval of the ban, calling it discriminatory. They argue that Israeli players were excluded solely because of their nationality, without regard to their individual merit.
It should be noted that the Israeli army has been busy in killing of innocent Palestinians for more than one year and so far over 50 thousand Palestinians including women and children have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.
