Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif came out on Thursday with warm praise for both President Donald Trump and Iran’s top leaders, just hours after they put pen to paper on the new Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States (US) and Iran.
In a post on X, Sharif described the deal as a real historic moment and said he was proud to have played a part in mediating between the two sides. He singled out Trump’s leadership, saying the American president’s push for dialogue had been key to avoiding what could’ve been a terrible regional blow-up.

“I want to sincerely congratulate President Donald J. Trump,” Sharif wrote. “His determination to sit down and find peaceful solutions has once again helped steer us away from the brink of something that could have been disastrous for everyone involved.”
He also thanked the American team on the ground, especially J.D. Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, for their relentless work behind the scenes.
Sharif went on to express real respect for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, calling their decision to embrace peace a sign of true statesmanship.
He also credited the Iranian negotiators, including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi, and Eskandar Momeni, for their patience and constructive attitude that helped close the deal.
The Prime Minister didn’t stop there. He highlighted the helpful roles played by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Egypt, saying their involvement was genuinely important in making this breakthrough happen.
He reserved special thanks for Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, praising his tireless, low-profile efforts and total dedication that proved critical in pushing the talks forward.
All in all, Sharif sounded optimistic that this memorandum could become the foundation for better trust, cooperation, and shared progress across the region moving forward.
