ISLAMABAD: Ishaq Dar has refuted claims of Pakistani students’ fatalities in recent clashes in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
During a news conference in Lahore alongside Information Minister Atta Tarar and Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, he attributed the dissemination of false information to social media platforms and accused paid bloggers of fueling hate against immigrants and foreigners for political motives.
In response to the situation, Dar disclosed that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had communicated with Pakistan’s ambassador to Kyrgyzstan to address the crisis. He confirmed that while 16 foreign students, including five Pakistanis, were injured in the clashes, there have been no subsequent incidents since the initial outbreak of violence.
Tarar condemned the spread of “misleading news” by a political party on social media, labeling it as an attempt to score political points and discredit the government. He urged against such actions, emphasizing the unethical nature of politicizing incidents and spreading false narratives.
Tarar highlighted instances where images of Bangladeshi students were falsely associated with the incident, falsely suggesting Pakistani casualties.
