Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has reportedly been poisoned, according to international media reports.
According to a report by Pak Observer on Friday, last month, before opposition forces captured the Syrian capital, Damascus, in December, Assad fled to Russia with his family. Russia granted them asylum on humanitarian grounds.
Recent reports by international media claim that Assad was poisoned in Moscow in a possible assassination attempt. The “General SVR” online account, believed to be run by a former high-ranking Russian intelligence officer, stated that Assad fell ill in Moscow on Sunday, suffering from severe coughing and difficulty breathing.
Assad sought medical assistance and was treated at his apartment. By Monday, his condition reportedly stabilized, and medical tests confirmed poisoning. However, the media did not specify the sources of this information.
The Russian government has yet to confirm the claims.
