The CAC/PAC JF-17 Thunder, also known as FC-1 Xiaolong, is a Sino-Pakistani single-engine lightweight supersonic multirole combat aircraft developed jointly by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation of China.

Bangladesh has recently acquired a fully operational simulator for the JF-17 Thunder Block III, a development that has led to rumors that Dhaka could potentially purchase the jointly developed Chinese-Pakistani fighter jet.

The move reflects growing defense cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan after years of strained ties during the tenure of former Bangladeshi premier Sheikh Hasina.

According to Bangladesh’s Daily Asian Age, Pakistani officials described the simulator transfer as part of a broader framework of defense collaboration between the two countries.

Defense Security Asia reported that the simulator was intended to familiarize Bangladeshi personnel with the aircraft’s operational environment, further fueling reports that Dhaka may eventually procure the fighter aircraft.

Military cooperation between the two nations has expanded in recent months. Reuters reported in January 2026 that Pakistan was pursuing a formal defense pact with Bangladesh and discussing the possible sale of JF-17 fighter jets.

Delegations from both countries have exchanged visits more frequently, while Bangladeshi military officers have reportedly increased participation in Pakistani training programs and exercises. Reports also suggest Pakistan is offering defense equipment ranging from trainer aircraft to advanced combat systems.
