Pakistani actress Momina Iqbal has recently been at the center of controversy due to false claims about her gender identity.
A viral video, which amassed 13 million views, alleged that she is transgender and was disowned by her family. However, these claims are entirely baseless, and the video title is misleading clickbait. Momina made no such statements in the video.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) shared the video, writing: “Momina Iqbal is a great actress and has played some good roles. But today I found out that she is a transgender, and my respect for her has grown.”
The video in question is a one-minute clip from an interview, where the user falsely claims that Iqbal said: “I am a trans person. When my mother found out, I was thrown out of the house – Momina Iqbal cried.” However, Momina has never made such remarks about her gender identity or her family.
The clips circulating online are edited excerpts from an interview Momina Iqbal gave to Karachi-based Fuchsia Magazine on August 29, 2022. The full, unedited interview is available on the magazine’s YouTube channel, confirming that the claims are fabricated.
