Iranian media has claimed that its air defenses downed a U.S. Air Force fighter jet within its territory, releasing footage that appears to show the wreckage of an F-15E Strike Eagle linked to the U.S. Air Force’s 494th Fighter Squadron.
At the same time, Iraqi outlets have circulated separate footage showing a plume of smoke believed to be from a downed UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter.

There is some confusion in Iranian media, with both the F-15E and F-35A being mentioned. However, based on the visible features, it appears more consistent with an F-15E.

Initial reports from Iranian sources identified the aircraft as an F-35 Lightning II. However, closer analysis of the debris indicates otherwise. Visible structural components, including fuselage fragments and external mounting features, align more closely with the design of the F-15E rather than the stealth configuration of the F-35.
If verified, this would mark the first confirmed combat loss of a crewed U.S. Air Force aircraft over Iran since the conflict began.
Footage shared by Iranian channels shows scattered wreckage that analysts say is consistent with the Strike Eagle, a twin-engine aircraft designed for long-range strike missions as well as air-to-air combat. However, Iranian authorities have yet to disclose details on how the aircraft was brought down or the status of its crew.
