Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif issued a message on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, condemning the discrimination, hatred, and prejudice faced by Muslims worldwide.
According to national media, Maryam Nawaz stated that Pakistan took a commendable step by presenting a resolution against Islamophobia at the United Nations General Assembly, raising the voice of Muslims globally.
In her statement, the Punjab Chief Minister said that Islam is a religion of mercy that teaches peace, love, tolerance, and human dignity. However, she lamented that propaganda against Islam and Muslims is spreading rapidly. She described Islamophobia as a serious threat to global peace and interfaith harmony, emphasizing the need to appreciate all efforts to eliminate it.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif urged the United Nations and other international organizations to take effective and decisive measures against hateful attitudes. She called on the global community to ensure the protection of the lives, property, rights, and dignity of Muslims in Kashmir, Palestine, and other regions.
The Punjab Chief Minister highlighted that the provincial government is taking all possible steps to promote religious harmony and respect for minorities. She reaffirmed her commitment to building a Punjab where people of all religions and sects enjoy equal rights and dignity.
She stressed the need to introduce the world to the true essence of Islam to counter the effects of Islamophobia. She also emphasized the importance of raising voices against all forms of hatred, stating that everyone must play their role in achieving sustainable global peace.
