As terrorist attacks have surged in Pakistan in recent days, specially Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces were targeted, now there are rumors on social media that the federal capital Islamabad is also under threat of attack and due to which security has been beefed up in the city, however, Islamabad police have refuted these rumors and clarified that the heightened security measures were as per routine during Ramadan.
Rumours have been circulating on social media that law enforcement agencies, acting on warnings from intelligence sources, have increased their vigilance after receiving threats of possible terrorist activity, including the possibility of a suicide bombing.
Islamabad police spokesperson dismissing social media rumours about a terror threat, calling them false propaganda. He said that the security in the capital remains on high alert during Ramadan, as per routine.
Additional checkpoints and patrolling plans have been implemented for public safety. He said every year during Ramazan security is heightened during Sehri, Iftar, and Taraweeh times.
High-alert security measures have been taken not only for religious places but also for markets during Ramadan, he added. Ensuring the safety of citizens remains Islamabad Police’s top priority, the spokesperson said.
The residents of Islamabad had expressed grave concerns over the heightened security measures and long queues at police check posts, which had also created a traffic mess.
