In a shocking incident, a married woman from Patan district in Gujarat, India, allegedly killed a man and dressed his corpse in her clothes to fake her own death in an attempt to escape her marriage and be with her lover—an act reportedly inspired by the Bollywood film Drishyam.
Police in Gujarat arrested a young couple, both aged 21, at Palanpur railway station on Wednesday for allegedly staging the woman’s death using the body of a murdered man.
The charred remains of a middle-aged man were discovered Tuesday night in Jakhotra village, located in the Santalpur taluka of Patan district. The body was initially meant to pass as that of Geeta Ahir, who, along with her partner Bharat Ahir, had allegedly conspired to fake her death in order to escape and start a new life together.
Investigators revealed that the plot was inspired by the storyline of the Bollywood film Drishyam. Geeta, who lived with her husband in Jakhotra, allegedly devised the plan and persuaded Bharat to help her obtain a body that could be used to fabricate her death.
The deceased was later identified as 56-year-old Harjibhai Solanki, a nomadic resident of the nearby village of Vauva.
According to police, Geeta and Bharat confessed to the crime during interrogation, stating that Solanki was targeted after offering Geeta a motorcycle ride on May 26. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Solanki’s murder.
