ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet today (Tuesday) has decided to launch a crackdown on profiteers and hoarders of sugar in order to bring down its prices.
Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired the federal cabinet meeting to deliberate upon national issues including inflation, railways and the revival of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
The federal cabinet reviewed the government measures for reducing inflation. During the session, the cabinet members appraised PM Imran about the measures taken in order to reduce the prices of essential commodities.
The cabinet members assured that the artificial hike in flour rates will end after the wheat imports. It was informed that the first shipment of wheat had reached the country and the remaining shipments will arrive in Pakistan soon.
During the meeting, Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed presented the revival plan of Pakistan Railways and raised the issue for the payment of pensions to the employees.
Rasheed informed the cabinet that Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) will fully revive in three phases. “The Supreme Court (SC) had directed to restore the KCR at earliest,” Rasheed said.
Meanwhile, the cabinet members also welcomed the appointment of Dr Waqar Masood as a special assistant on revenue. The annual financial report of the national flag-carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), was also presented before the cabinet.
While praising the CEO of the national airline, PM Imran Khan asserted that the national carrier was moving towards betterment. He also directed the authorities to restructure PIA.
Moreover, the federal cabinet also reviewed the narrative of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the anti-government movement and public rallies of the opposition.
