NEW DELHI: India’s limited-over vice-captain and senior opener Rohit Sharma has been ruled out from the upcoming tour of Australia due to a recurring injury.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the entire squad that will head to Australia later this year for a tour that will consist of three ODIs, three T20Is, and four Tests.
Meanwhile, pacer Ishant Sharma has also been left out as he continues to recover from an abdominal muscle tear that ruled him out of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“The medical board of BCCI will keep an eye on Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma as they are not completely fit at the moment,” according to a statement issued in this regard.
In Rohit’s absence, the in-form KL Rahul will be Virat Kohli’s deputy in the white-ball teams and is also back in the Test squad after a considerable period of time, whereas, pacer Mohammed Siraj also earned a chance to make his debut in the five-day format.
The Indian team is expected to fly off to Australia and quarantine down under in the virus-hit year. Indian media informed that Test specialists Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari have landed in the UAE along with the support staff including head coach Ravi Shastri.
