CHENNAI: Prominent Indian motivational speaker and social activist Sabarimala Jayakanthan has converted to Islam.
She arrived in Makkah to perform Umrah. While standing in front of the Holy Kaabah in the Grand Mosque in Makkah, she shared a video on social media that she had converted to Islam. Following the conversion, she has changed her name to Fatima Sabarimala.
Regarding her decision to embrace her new religion, she said, “I asked myself why I was so hostile to Muslims and that is how I started reading the Quran with an open mind,” she said. “I understand the truth and now I love Islam more than I do,” she added in the video.
Sabarimala said that being a Muslim is a great honour and asked the Muslims to introduce the Holy Quran to all. “You have an amazing book in your hand. Why is it hidden in the house. The world should read it, “she said in a video message. She also visit the Kiswa construction site and embroider on the Gilaaf-e-Kaabah.

Sabarimala was born in 1982 to a Hindu family in Madurai in the state of Tamil Nadu. Her parents are Alagar Sami and Kaliyarasi. Later, they married Jayakant and has a son named Jayacholan. She started working as a government school teacher in Dindigul in 2002 and later resigned, declaring that the country was more important than her job.
She also had a notable fight in the fight against National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a pre-medical entrance test for students who wish to pursue undergraduate studies. She also asked how NEET can be the same for everyone in the country.
