In the high-voltage T20 World Cup encounter underway in Colombo, India have set Pakistan a target of 176 runs for victory. Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha had earlier won the toss and opted to field first.
India began cautiously but suffered an early setback when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed in the opening over by Salman Ali Agha, with Shaheen Afridi taking the catch.
The Indian side then shifted gears, playing more aggressively to reach 127 for four at the end of 15 overs. Wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan proved the most dangerous batter, scoring 77 off 40 deliveries, including three sixes and ten fours. He was bowled by Saim Ayub in the ninth over.
During the 15th over, Saim Ayub also trapped Tilak Varma lbw after he had made 25 from 24 balls, including one six and two fours. With India on 126 for three, Hardik Pandya fell on the very next delivery, caught by Babar Azam, handing Ayub another wicket.
Earlier, speaking at the toss, Salman Ali Agha said Pakistan had made no changes to their line-up and were confident about how to approach conditions on such a pitch. India captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed two changes to his side, with Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav returning to the team.
