ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear a petition against the appointment of Shehzad Akbar as an advisor to the Prime Minister on accountability today.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah will hear the petition which has been filed by Syed Pervaiz Zahoor Advocate. Prime Minister Imran Khan, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, the advisor, and Cabinet Division have been made respondents.

The petitioner said that a notification regarding the appointment was again issued on July 22 while Supreme Court’s Justice Qazi Faez Isa had also raised questions over Akbar’s appointment.

The petition further states the accountability advisor was using political influence for the appointment. The petitioner has asked the court to declare the appointment of Akbar null and void. Earlier, the court had issued notices to parties and sought replies.

Earlier, while clarifying his position on his earlier clarification, Shehzad Akbar said that he did not mean to imply that the agriculture department is in no position to grant relief. “I appear to have offended the hardworking people over at the agriculture department, who have taken my first clarification as a slight towards their abilities and competence,” he said.
