Hailing from Lahore, Syeda Shehrbano Naqvi is an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Lahore’s Gulberg area.
What did she do?
ASP Shehrbano Naqvi put her life in danger and invaded the midst of the agitated crowd, positioning herself between the girl and her accusers. She not only addressed the mob, and urged them to step back and allow her to handle the situation peacefully, she also escorted the girl safely from there.
Acknowledgment
Apart from being applauded on social media for her bravery, Punjab’s newly elected chief minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed appreciation for her exemplary bravery, wisdom, and dedication to duty.
Tribute
For her actions taken timely during the incident, the Punjab Police chief has announced that the department has recommended the name of ASP Shehrbano Naqvi for the Quaid-e-Azam Police Medal, the highest gallantry award for law enforcement in Pakistan, for putting her life in danger to ‘rescue a woman from a violent crowd’.
