International Cricket Council (ICC) can’t hire a proper tech team. For a second time, the ICC has made a big blunder. India became World No 1 across all three formats for 4 hours, only for the ICC to accept the ranking gaffe and make the correction.
As per ICC website, India claimed World No 1 rank in Test at 2:30 PM on Wednesday. However, by 7 PM on the same day, ICC made the change in ranking points. In what seemed unbelievable, Australia lost 15 ranking points to slip to World No 2 while India claimed the top spot. But ICC made the correction later to reflect Australia as World No 1 instead.
However, the rectification is also incorrect. After losing the first Test by an innings and 132 runs, Australia will lose 4 points to be at 122. But the latest update puts Australia at top with 126. India will gain five ranking points to close the gap with 120 points. If Rohit Sharma & Co win in Delhi Test, they will certainly clinch the World No 1 rank.
India are already the No. 1 ranked in the shortest format. The Men in Blue then went on to wrap the top spot in the 50-over format with a series win against NZ. A 3-0 clean sweep against NewZealand was enough to make Rohit Sharma the top-ranked team in ODIs.
