ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of National Health Services has banned cigarette advertisement, sponsorship and prize schemes today (Saturday).
According to a notification issued by the ministry, the advertisement of tobacco products through posters, screens and cinemas has been declared illegal. Endorsement of tobacco products through print and electronic media has also been banned.
PM’s special assistant Dr. Zafar Mirza has said that one hundred and sixty six thousand people die annually due to tobacco consumption.
He said, “The tobacco companies will not be allowed to send tobacco placards via personal email or post,” adding that from now on wards children would not become victim of tobacco advertisement.
Zafar Mirza concluded that every possible strategy was being adopted to implement the law.
