The computerization of land records in Gwadar has achieved an impressive 82% completion due to dedicated efforts of the revenue staff and computerization teams, with ongoing progress in land settlement, as revealed by Deputy Commissioner Gwadar, Aurangzeb Badini.
He noted that the Board of Revenue has been engaged to provide its final verdict on a technical matter, aiming to achieve 100% progress. Gwadar residents can now access all digitized land record-related services for 32 Mouzas/Wards through the Markaz-e-Sahooliat Centre at Tehsil Office Gwadar, he added.
Emphasizing the benefits, Badini highlighted that computerized land records would be immune to forgery, fraud, and corruption, ensuring a malfunction-free system. This move is expected to enhance transparency, efficiency, and security, contributing to sustainable development and economic growth.
Addressing the importance of land settlement for equitable ownership, the Deputy Commissioner stated that once the settlement process concludes, residents of Gwadar City will have the freedom to buy, sell, and utilize their land for personal and commercial purposes.
In Baluchistan, a significant portion of land is collectively held by tribes rather than individual ownership. With proper settlement, individuals will gain the opportunity to acquire land in their names, facilitating straightforward transactions for residences, commercial activities, or agricultural ventures.
Notably, in 2013, the government halted an ongoing land settlement process for Gwadar district’s Pasni subdivision, leading to confusion about state-owned versus privately held land. The abrupt stop raised concerns about transparency and fairness, making the land settlement process in Gwadar a complex and contentious issue marked by various challenges and controversies.
