Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur has approved several infrastructure projects, including underpasses and road expansions, to address persistent traffic congestion in Peshawar.
To alleviate traffic issues, the government plans to expand five key locations on University Road and construct underpasses at four high-traffic points on Ring Road.
The underpasses will be built at Kabutar Chowk, Dilazak Chowk, Jamil Chowk, Pishtakhara Chowk, and Customs Chowk. Similarly, expansions on University Road will focus on traffic hotspots such as Board Bazaar, Town Chowk, Sherpao Hospital, Iqra Chowk, and Tambano Chowk.
Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan, along with the deputy commissioner of Peshawar, the director general of the Peshawar Development Authority, and other officials, visited these sites. He directed a comprehensive operation against encroachments on University Road and ordered the formation of a permanent anti-encroachment squad to prevent temporary encroachments.
Moreover, the commissioner stressed to maintain smooth traffic flow during the expansion work on University Road and minimizing public inconvenience. Similar instructions were issued to ensure traffic management during the construction of underpasses on Ring Road.
